To Meditate... Or Not To Meditate

I have always associated meditation with "eastern" religions. Lately, I have been challenged to look into the subject. After little thought, I said to myself, "wait a minute, lumping "meditation" as something only "eastern religions" do, is as absurd as lumping "breathing" as something "eastern religions" do.

It seems as though we already meditate...

We often clear our minds of all distraction, and visualize ... New clothes... Money... Friends... Romance... Vengeance.

It seems as though David is not performing an exercise of clearing his mind of all. Or emptying his mind of all. It seems as though he is filling his mind with a particular focus. What do you think??

Ps 63:6
When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches,

Ps 145:5

Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still . Selah.

Ps 27:4
One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life , To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.
